Hello!
It’s so hot in DC. This is not news. In fact, I was warned about the summers here when I announced my move last year. “The swamp,” people would say. “You’ll be living in the swamp!”
They were not wrong. Going outdoors is like being wrapped in cellophane, clothes clinging to skin and sweat trapped, well, everywhere. My daily walks have dwindled into short trips around the block before retreating back into air conditioning, followed by a cold shower and a necessary outfit change. Not unlike the air itself, I’ve been feeling stifled. And grumpy. Mostly grumpy.
That said, it felt like time for another “One Nice Thing A Day” newsletter (here’s a link to my last one for newer subscribers!). This series helps me look at each day with a gentler gaze, finding the pockets of softness between the complaints (which, uh, yeah, have been more frequent lately). Here we go!
And one more nice thing: this Tiktok by artist Lucas Oakley (all you need to know is there are rhinestones. Rhinestones!).
Take care,
Haley
