An east coast sketchbook diary + July's phone wallpaper
I’m writing from my husband’s childhood home in Ohio. The sky is blue and the air is thick and the corn fields stretch right up to the horizon. Get the soft serve ice cream here — it’s especially creamy and melts quickly under the hot haze of afternoon sunshine. The best old fashioned doughnut I’ve ever had can be bought from the bakery one town over.
But most magical of all are the lightning bugs, a surprise every time they blink brightly against the darkness.
Next up I’m swinging through Charlotte to say hi to my family and eat some hush puppies.
It’s quite a shock to experience North Carolina in July, even after doing so year after year during my childhood. I pit out every shirt. I tend to hide indoors, where the air conditioning blasts. The plan is to stay hydrated and SPF-ed.
