#6: Is Revenge Bedtime My Hobby?
Plus a virtual tomato festival (and yes, that's the cutest subtitle I've ever written)
Hi!
Thank you for your patience as I send this newsletter out a day late! Today, we’re exploring “revenge bedtime,” a concept I first came across on Twitter, when this tweet by Daphne K. Lee went viral. More on that, but illustrated (of course):
A few updates that are also recommendations:
Some books to add to your library queue: Rachel Khong’s Goodbye, Vitamin, Melissa Broder’s Milk Fed, and Vanessa Springora’s harrowing memoir, Le Consentement.
A recipe to make, like, right now: My mom made this peanut butter pie during a visit home, and it is exactly what would exist if peanut butter and a cloud had a baby.
A few songs to add to your playlist: Yuno’s cover of “Zebra,” Andrew Belle’s “Fade Into You,” and Charli XCX’s bop of a song “Official.” Enjoy!
An event to add to your calendar: The Virtual Homegrown Tomato Festival! This is an event benefiting 100 Gardens, a non-profit focused on implementing aquaponics systems in schools, institutions, and communities of need. They’re based in my hometown, Charlotte, NC, and my dad is a part of their team (his passion for this work is incredibly contagious). Anyway! They’re doing virtual tours of gardens, cooking and cocktail demos, and a musical performance all online — and it’s a fantastic excuse to make a tomato sandwich. Check it out here.
Alright, kids. Have a great rest of your week, and go to bed whenever you want — in fact, here’s a Tiktok to watch to push your bedtime back a few seconds further. See you next time!
