Inspired by the comic topic, today’s recommendations are all related to sleeping. Let’s go.
My Curated Sleep Recommendations:
100% cotton flannel sheets. My parents got us a set from L.L. Bean a few Christmases ago, and they were an immediate game changer. I like to double up with a flannel sleep shirt when I’m craving an extra cozy slumber.
White noise — though I’ll admit I prefer pink noise, which sounds akin to a waterfall (link to a free 12 hour option here). I’ve noticed such a difference in my brain’s ability to drift off with this subtle, calming sound in the background.
Sleep mind games. I’ve found my anxiety tends to be loudest at night as I’m trying to fall asleep. This totally makes sense, as it is the only time of the day I tend to be totally free of distraction. I cycle through a few brain games to help calm my mind. My favorite is counting backwards by threes, which is exactly what is sounds like: Start at 100, and—you guessed it—count backwards by threes (100, 97, 94, 91, 88…). I’ve gotten to the point that I’ve memorized the sequence, so I’ve been working backwards by seven more recently. It is incredibly dull—to the point it might put you right to sleep.
Colorful pajamas. I loooove a good PJ set. The bright patterns! The soft fabrics! The mood shift they provide! My favorite sleepwear comes from Karen Mabon’s collection—the patterns are so whimsical and fun. They retail at a higher price point, so I highly recommend looking out for their sales!
Thanks for reading, and please let me know if you have any sleep mind games for me to add to the rotation.
Sweet dreams!
My dreams often take place on a pirate ship! or in a parking deck ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
