#149: My biggest discount of the year
Plus June wallpapers + May faves
May has left both my camera roll and sketchbook a little fuller:

To celebrate the arrival of my birthday (and therefore favorite) month, I’m offering a 15% discount on annual subscriptions (which includes mail club + monthly phone wallpapers) through the end of June. It’s one of the best ways to support my work.
The fun doesn’t stop there, though! This month’s wallpapers + the rest of my May recap are free to all. Download your favorite design here!
Seven things I loved in May:
1. The only TV show that makes me actually laugh out loud:
If you haven’t watched Hacks I’m kind of jealous because you still have the chance to experience the show for the first time. The series finale aired last Thursday and I weeped. The characters are so special. I miss it already.
2-3. Two (very different) novels:
Whidbey by t kira māhealani: A dark, riveting mystery that follows three women all connected to an abusive man. The prose, plotting, and voice are a masterclass in craft (particularly the last 80 pages). This one is quite heavy, so check out the content warnings before diving in.
Girls Our Age by Phoebe Thompson: This one perfectly encapsulates the tether between college friends, even when they grow up (and, sometimes, apart). I instantly saw my own friendships reflected in the dialogue and storylines, so read it for nostalgia’s sake if nothing else! The book itself also has one of the most beautiful hardcovers I’ve encountered:
4. My favorite home improvement budget hack:
I’ve recently taken to searching through shelves of artwork at Goodwill with the goal of finding quality, matted frames. My success has varied, but I’ve had some good luck (especially with the help of a little glass cleaner):

5. For your summer soundtrack:
Big Disgrace, the deliciously danceable debut album from Haute & Freddy. Not a single skip (this applies to the tracks themselves and the music videos).
6-7. A few reminders that it is indeed the little things in life:
Exhibit A: Setting these yellow coasters on our placemats as an homage to butter on pancakes:
Exhibit B: This peony in my garden, a bloom that made me gasp upon seeing it.

I just requested Whidbey from the library and I'm 158th in line. That's actually okay, because it seems like a dark and sinister book, one to read in the wintertime (hopefully from a hotel in Langley or Coupeville)
Oh my gosh the sky in that river photo is a beaut! Talk about purple pink skies 😍
